Hey, we added Hilo, Hawaii to our list of forecasts in advance of Hurricane Guillermo. Guillermo is currently forecast to pass to the north of the Big Island in a few days, though the exact track is very uncertain at this point. Regardless of track, heavy rain and surf is forecast. Swell Matrix is forecasting forerunners to start showing in Hilo Sunday morning, hitting 5 feet at 15 seconds by evening. By Wednesday, swell will peak to 10 feet at 11 seconds. Keep in mind this is a raw forecast, and Swell Matrix usually under-forecasts wave height in hurricanes. Use your local knowledge and experience and stay safe if you paddle out.
The actual buoy off Hilo is offline due to communications failure- as soon as it’s back up we will add current wave conditions.
